Volume I, Number 4 November, 2005

One who leads often occupies a position. Prestige, power, and authority may accompany such a place. Where leadership is driven by values and the desires to see followers succeed, positional placement fades in importance next to opportunities to contribute to a follower's growth.
If you are the leader, ask yourself these important questions:
1. How much do I give for the benefit of my followers?
2. How willing am I to require accountability in myself before I desire it from those I lead?
3. Are my followers learning how to follow well by watching me respond to the demands fostered on me?
4. Am I a good follower?
Leaders teach followers how to follow long before they teach followers how to lead. What kind of following are your followers learning from you? Has position and place given way to personal accountability and investment? Are you living the example you desire to receive?
If so, you are leading well.
