Volume I, Number 8 March, 2006

Leaders and followers communicate. Their interactions may include problem solving, confrontation and, consistently, the boldness to uphold right principle. How strong is your team when they deal with difficult issues? Do they become better through these experiences?

Conflict is not an option; indeed, it is expected. Dealing with conflict positively, providing values-based solutions to problematic issues, are sure indicators of health. The opposite is also true. Dealing with conflict negatively, where isolation, demeaning criticism, intimidation and avoidance are parts of an interchange showcase the sickness of the leader and the team.

Disagreements constitute parts of life and business experience. They also represent opportunities for maturity on healthy teams. Great leaders promote interactions within strong relationships and functions, where success is the product of investment, especially through tough dealings. Conflict does not cover the integrity of a vibrant relationship, it reveals it.
