Volume II, Number 4 November, 2006

Great teams are composed of thankful people. Giving and receiving are part of the same action, of course, and grateful people understand the value of being thankful and receiving praise.

The idea that a leader doesn't need thanks from his or her followers is false. Involved and caring leaders are more able to share praise from a heart that knows it is appreciated.

If you're following a good leader, affirm him or her. If you are the leader, appreciate your followers and let them know. Learn the art of mutual giving and receiving and practice it on your team. Leader and follower will be better for the effort and engagement.
