     Potential realized in the contributions of a follower makes a leader happy-especially when results are related to the leader's investment in the follower. Everyone loves success. Success, in our way of thinking, is defined as "seeing another realize their dreams and goals through your encouragement and support."

     Consider: which of your followers are producing positive results that you can see? Which of those who you would like to see succeed struggle or don't want to move from where they are now? What is your reaction when you see a follower with potential not maximizing efforts to achieve more?

     One of the great challenges of new opportunity is for the leader to clearly define with the follower the goals of a mentoring investment so that time, energy, and resources are utilized well-never wasted. When resources are best utilized, because leader and follower agree on procedure, the goal of realizing and maybe even exceeding potential is well within reach.
