Volume II, Number 8 March, 2007

Pro-action replaces reaction when leadership is engaged. Detached leadership may be taken by surprise, feeling it must bend to circumstances. Involved leadership sees opportunities and challenges, seizes the moments, and implements its strengths while the journeys unfold.

What kind of leadership do you exercise? If attached leadership is your desire, then it begins with a commitment to know the people who follow you and it is sustained by strengthening the relationships that matter. How well do you know your followers?

Ask the Four Questions of a follower who has potential, in order to stimulate discussion on something more than mere task fulfillment.
          1. Who are you at your core?
          2. What is your life's passion or cause?
          3. What do you want?
          4. Whom will you impact?
These four questions are explained in Leadership Is- pages 57-59. Grow your people proactively. Prepare for life and work's inevitable changes through understanding your people enough to help them succeed.
