Speaking of Change

Change is necessary whenever a different result is expected from an activity.  Behaviors need to be altered when the desired effects outweigh the risks.

How open is your team to change for the better and in what categories?  Change for the sake of change without clear definition and timeline consideration can often be a waste of time.

If desired change is worth the risk, how can we accomplish it?  Here are some guidelines:

  1. Decide on changes to be made on the basis of agreement on Values (the principles on which the team agrees), Vision (the reasons for the team’s existence), Mission (the tasks that prove our values and vision), and Message (the lessons we learn and teach).
  2. Assign ownership of specific tasks to specific people.  When tasks are owned is when responsibility is determined.
  3. Set a timeline.  Actions in a calendar vacuum are only ideas.

Change is needful.  How much does your team want it, for what purposes, with the expectation of what results, and in what timeline?
